Precautions
Step 1: Be sure you can get alerts and warnings from Santa Clara County officials
Sign up for AlertSCC or verify that your existing information the the system is correct. The county will use this information to contact you about emergency conditions, such as evacuation warnings and orders. This is what is commonly refered to as “reverse 911.”
Step 2: Be sure you can get alerts from us (ARES/RACES)
Log into our Activities Database. Go to “My Contact Info” and enter your contact info into the AlertSCC section.
Important: Be sure to also complete Step 1 above. Entering information in our database does NOT enter you into the county’s database. Our database is only used by us (ARES/RACES) when we need to reach out to amateur radio operators to request communications support.
Step 3: Review your plan
Review your emergency plan with your family. Make sure everyone knows where to meet, what to do.
Make sure you’re ready to leave if you need to evacuate (food, clothing, medicine, fuel for you vehicle, radios, etc.).
