Station Components

Every ARES/RACES station has three critical components: a radio, an antenna system, and a power source. Stations that support packet operations also have a set of packet-related equipment.

Reference Information

Operations on simplex frequencies, including all packet operations, are susceptible to the “hidden node problem.” Avoidance of this is a key goal of station design.
