Outpost Packet Message Manager
The Outpost Packet Message Manager, created by Jim Oberhofer KN6PE of Cupertino, is an MS Windows packet client that hides most of the mechanics of packet operations, presenting a user interface that looks like an email client.
Outpost is the official standard packet software for SCCo ARES/RACES. It is what we teach in our packet classes. All packet operators are expected to be proficient with it, and all packet stations are expected to have it available.
Outpost offers these features:
- Support for many TNCs, BBSes, and connection methods
- Organization of messages into folders
- Automatic message numbering
- Support for both FCC and tactical call signs
- Automatic generation of delivery receipt messages
- Automatic generation of message logs
- Multiple profiles for switching between configurations
- Automation via its own scripting language
SCCo packet operators should install Outpost using the SCCo Packet Installer, which contains versions of Outpost and PackItForms pre-configured with SCCo ARES/RACES preferred settings. Documentation for Outpost is available at the Outpost website.
