Packet Shell and Library

The “packet shell,” created by Steve Roth KC6RSC of Sunnyvale, is a command-line based packet client. It works on most operating systems and has no external dependencies, making it useful in environments where the SCCo-standard Outpost and PackItForms software cannot run. It is self-contained (no installer) and can run from removable media, making it useful in locked-down environments where Outpost and PackItForms cannot be installed. It is easily invoked by scripts, making it useful for automation of packet operations.

Packet Shell sample

The packet shell is built on top of the packet library, which provides basic packet operations to applications written in Go. This library is also used by the weekly packet practice automation.

Please note: the packet shell is not acceptable for use during any credential evaluation. Type III packet operators must display the ability to use the SCCo-standard Outpost and PackItForms software, and Type II packet operators must display the ability to operate manually without any of the convenience features that the packet shell provides.

Bug reports, questions, etc. regarding the packet shell or library are best sent to the pbeniyFzkl‑ares‑races.groups.io email discussion group.
