Transmit Audio Level

The audio tones generated by your TNC need to be at the right volume level. Too soft, and the station you’re talking to will have trouble hearing them. Too loud, and their waveforms will be clipped, making them difficult to interpret.

The proper audio level is a function of both the TNC and the radio. Each different combination of TNC model and radio model has a different optimal audio level. You can change the audio level with an adjustment to your TNC. On some TNCs, this is a physical adjustment, turning a knob. On others, such as the county standard Kantronics KPC-3 Plus, it’s a software setting.

Here are proper settings for some common radios when connected to a KPC-3 Plus.
