Cross-Band Repeat

Cross-band repeat is the ability for your radio to receive on one VFO and automatically retransmit on the other VFO (tuned to a different band). This capability can be helpful for a sole field operator at a remote site or a sole EOC operator: the base/mobile is set up for cross-band repeat and the operator carries an HT. The operator can move about the location, such as to deliver messages, while still having the full power and better antenna of the mobile radio to reach the net. Similarly, it can be used to extend coverage to HTs in a remote area that can’t directly reach a repeater, by placing the mobile in a location that both can reach.

A radio capable of CW (Morse code) ID during cross-band operations is preferable. Otherwise, the station operator will need to ensure that users of the radio remember to ID the cross-band repeater station, in addition to their own stations.

Cross-Band Repeat Instructions

Here are instruction sheets for cross-band repeat on commonly-used radios. (If you have a radio not listed here, send us its instructions and we’ll add it.)
