Standard Outpost Settings
This page describes the standard Outpost configuration settings for SCCo ARES/RACES assignments. Verify these at the start of any assignment or shift. This page is a summary; for full details, read the attached full document.
Setup → Station ID → Identification
- User Call Sign
- Your FCC call sign
- User Name
- Your full name
- Message ID Prefix
- Last three characters of your FCC call sign
- Use Tactical Call for BBS interaction
- Check if your station has been assigned a tactical call sign
- Tactical Call Sign
- The tactical call sign assigned to your station
- Additional ID Text
- Name or description of the tactical station
- Message ID Prefix
- Prefix assigned to your agency (generally first three letters of tactical call sign)
Setup → Interface → Type
- Interface Name
- Select the appropriate one of the predefined `XSC_` types.
Setup -> Interface -> Comm Port
- Comm Port
- Select the port to which the TNC is connected.
- Other Settings
- Change if needed for your TNC.
- Defaults are Max Speed 9600, Data Bits 8, Parity None, Stop Bits 1, Echo On, Flow Control RTS/CTS.
Setup → Interface → Init Cmds
- Send TNC initialization commands for every Send/Receive session
- Should be turned on.
Setup → BBS → Name
- BBS Name
- Select the primary BBS assigned to your city or agency.
- If the primary BBS is down, select the secondary assigned BBS.
Setup → BBS → Init Commands
- Send BBS initialization commands for every Send/Receive session
- Should be turned on.
- Cmds to send before Send/Receive
- Should contain `XM 0`. (That’s a zero.)
Setup → BBS → Retrieving
- Retrieve Private Messages
- Should be turned on.
- Retrieve Bulletins
- Should be turned on.
- Custom Retrieval

Tools → Report Settings → Variables
- Next Message Number
- Should contain the number for the next message.
