Internet Access Service
The SCCo ARES/RACES intranet has connectivity to the global Internet from four different locations widely spaced around the county (the same locations as the packet BBSes). In the event that a served agency’s own connections to the global Internet are nonfunctional, they can route traffic through our intranet as an alternate route — actually four alternate routes — to the global Internet.
For this to work, the served agency must have an Ethernet or WiFi TCP/IP connection to the SCCo ARES/RACES intranet. And, of course, at least one of the four SCCo intranet locations needs to have a working connection to the global Internet.
The SCCo ARES/RACES intranet is resilient, but it is not a high bandwidth net. The resulting connections to the global Intranet will be slow. This Internet access service does not compete with commercial Internet providers.
