Role-Specific Classes

SCCo ARES/RACES defines four discrete emergency communications roles, with training classes for each. These are all in-person classes taught by SCCo ARES/RACES volunteers. Type III classes are the initial classes in each series; Type II classes are more advanced.

Field Communicators run voice stations in a field setting.

Net Control Operators coordinate traffic on voice radio nets.

Packet Operators transmit written messages through a data network.

Shadow Communicators follow an official and provide communications for them.
