Palo Alto ARES/RACES Communication Drill

  There are two roles: 

  • Radio Room Net Control and Packet (Outpost) at the ESV DOC – Cubberley Community Center Room D4.  09:30 am Start time to get set up and prepare for check ins.  Radio Room Registration.  
  • Field Communicator  - assigned a location at Check-In.  10:00 am start time.  Check into the net and report to the location assigned by the net control operator to provide a field assessment.  Field Communicator Registration
  • This is also an opportunity for Trailer members to check in from your assigned trailer – to test the gear there.  Register as a Field Communicator. 
  • Primary Tactical Net is the W6EI Repeater.

Note: We are collecting local Palo Alto registrations so that we can quickly monitor these sign ups.  There is also a way to sign up on the Santa Clara County ARES website.  You are free to do that as well, but please also use the links above.  

Training Scenario:  Our training scenario will be the immediate aftermath of a severe storm including extremely heavy rains over a short period of time accompanied by strong winds.  At the time of our activation, the rain and winds have greatly subsided.  But a flood warning remains in effect for the next two hours.   Only a handful of city staff members are available, so the City is asking for ARES members to provide assessments to key locations. 

ESV DOC Radio Room support will operate as net control of our radio nets which will include the tactical net and possibly a resource net.  They will also interface with the County ARES team to maintain communications during this exercise activation.
