Overall Event: This is a county-wide exercise focused on emergency communications. It is designed to provide participants with valuable in-field operating experience. It will include several fun and challenging assignments. Of course, standard County procedures will be used: Resource Net, ICS documentation, Performance Standard and Best Practices.
WiFi/Mesh Activity: This activity will give you the opportunity to learn about and experiment with mesh networking.
There will be a "Get On The Air" station for anyone who would like to give mesh networking a try. Mentors will be available to help you through the process of configuring and using the equipment. The mesh node and VoIP phone will be provided. You need a laptop with Ethernet connection and at least a five foot Ethernet cable. The laptop must be able to run from battery for a couple of hours.
Others are encouraged to bring their own mesh node, VoIP phone and other gear. You will link up to the mesh network at the drill to perform a variety of communications tasks.
Note: be sure you can operate on batteries or else bring a generator (and fire extenguisher). The drill will operate completely “off the grid”.
Sign-ups:.You can sign up for this activity in addition to other drill activities. If you want to do this and two other activities you will need to arrive at staging by 09:00 am. If this is the only activity that you take part in, you WILL NOT receive MAC credit for the drill. You will received MAC credit for the drill if you take part in at least one other activity.
More Information: Consult the drill details page for more information.
Note: If you do not have a valid county DSW you may sign up and attend but not check into the resource net as they will not be able to track you. You will be signed as a county DSW at staging for the duration of the event.
