“This is different than a drill or parade. Here you will be directly working with individuals directly who need your help. It’s the best kind of one-to-one activity. You will end the day knowing that you made a difference.” -R.R.
Tierra Bella is a bicycle tour through South County starting and ending at Gavilan College (5055 Santa Teresa Blvd, Gilroy, CA 95020). It takes place on Saturday, April 30, 2016 and consists of four simultaneous routes, a 60 K route, a 100 K route, a 100 Mile route, and a 200 K route. There will be up to 2,000 official riders out on these routes.
In order to handle breakdowns, accidents, medical incidents, and just plain fatigue, 15 SAG (Supply and Gear) vehicles will patrol the routes. The SAG vehicles can make minor repairs to bicycles such as fix flat tires, render limited first aid, and transport riders and their bicycles if they are unable to continue the tour or just need a lift to the next rest stop.
Each SAG vehicle will consist of a driver (usually the owner of the vehicle) and a communicator. The vehicle and driver is usually a member of the bicycle club; We will be there to provide communications between SAG vehicles, each rest stop, and the tour headquarters.

With all that in mind, what we are looking for are 32 communicators, preferably with 2m/70cm mobiles and mag mounts that can be temporary installed in/on the SAG vehicle or set up at a rest stop (a HT will work but not quite as well). Positions will include SAG Communicators, Rest Stop Communicators, Net Control operators, Scribes, and a telephone operator who will take calls from riders and relay their positions when in need of assistance.
We will send be sending out a questionnaire to volunteers and query the individual equipment capabilities and prepare to accommodate any special needs.
