The Los Gatos/Monte Sereno ARES/RACES group is offering a Ham Cram class designed for CERT and other neighborhood groups whose members are interested in getting a ham license.
It's a great way to increase the ranks of local ARES-RACES teams. We encourage all of our Ham Cram graduates to continue with the County Introduction to and Fundamentals of Emergency Communications classes and then with all the valuable classes that County ARES-RACES offers for adding to and maintaining emergency radio skills.
This is our 21st Ham Cram, put on quarterly by the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno ARES-RACES group as a public service to all who wish to support their family and community in an Emergency (or Public Service Events).
It is an instructor-led Ham Cram with six instructors for the day. The slides were originally created by the Saratoga Amateur Radio Assocation (SARA) and, of course, have been updated by us for the current 2022-2026 Question Pool.
There have been well over 500 graduates since 2016 with a 95% pass rate. Attendees come principally from Santa Clara County, but have included individuals from San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Cruz, San Benito and Sacramento counties, among others, between the ages of 12 and 92, with and without technical skills.
The class starts promptly at 08:00 and ends at 16:00 with lunch and other breaks. The FCC Volunteer Examiners (SVVE.org) take over at 16:00 to conduct the FCC testing process, which is now entirely on-line, though the class is in-person.
