This is the annual Statewide Medical and Health Exercise (aka the annual Hospital Drill).
Exercise Scenario: This year, the scenario is an emerging infectious desease, an influenza-like illness (ILI). The simulated scenario begins a month in advance of the functional exercise, with the first person presenting with flu-like symptoms. As time goes by, more cases present and the situation becomes more severe, causing more players to become involved (simulated) and ramp-up their operations. By the time of the functional exercise, the problem is widespread and escalating.
Participants: SCCo hospitals, allied health organizations (skilled nursing facilities and clinics), and a variety of partner agencies, including law, fire, EMS, Red Cross and SCCo ARES/RACES/ACS.
Our Mission: Although the exercise scenario is primarily focused on an infectious desease, the ability to communicate is clearly critical to being able to mount a response. Loss of communications, due to some other disaster or simply due to equipment failure or human error would hamper abilities to response to the medical problem. So, ARES/RACES will be part of the exercise. We will exercise the communications path between the MHJOC and the various hospital operations centers in both directions.
Schedule: The functional exercise will take place on Thursday, November 15th. The schedule is as follows. Check back occasionally for any changes.
- 08:00 - Check in at Hospital Command Center; set up station
- 08:00-09:00 - Varies by hospital; At some point during this hour there will be a participant briefing by the Hospital IC; amateur radio station should be set up and ready to go for both voice and packet messaging by 09:00
- 09:00 - Exercise play begins; check into nets (voice, pkt)
- 12:00 - Exercise play ends; check out of nets (voice, pkt)
- 12:00 - Hot wash
- 13:30 - Adjourn; Check out
Sign-ups: Only sign up for a Hospital location if you have the appropriate credentials to access that facility. Consult with the Hospital Net coordinator before signing up at the MHJOC.
For San Jose hospital particpants, signing up for any one hospital does not necessarily obligate being at that particular location since San Jose RACES manages participation in Hospital Net as a pool.
The following positions are available for this event. You can state your preference when you sign up for the event. The event coordinator will attempt to accommodate your request. Based on the event and its requirements, the event coordinator may move hams to positions other than those requested.
